EVZ EDITORIAL: PDL surrendered to the prosecutor Nicolai

Mircea Marian: "The Legal Committee of the Senate requires DNA to investigate Stolojan. A diversion to which PDL did not know how to react. "

Nothing doesn't better exemplify the disorder which reigns in the party led by Emil Boc than how the three important leaders of PDL - Stolojan, Videanu and Seculici - were on left in the hand of former prosecutor Norica Nicolai.

The story is known: the report of the Committee on Legal Affairs of the Senate on the file "Şereş" recommended the prosecutors to extend the DNA research and the three leaders of the PDL. The report does not explain in any way why would Stolojan, Seculici or Videanu be suspects as the former minister of economy, Codruţ Şereş.

Anyone realises that the senators of the committee under the leadership of Norica Nicolai seek a diversion. In the election campaign, opponents of Traian Băsescu will show that, ignoring the evidence in the dossier "Şereş" DNA has not undertaken any verification of those of the PDL. The leaders of PSD, PNL and PC will be claim that it demonstrates that (once more) the prosecutors of Daniel Morar are only acting on the request of the Cotroceni Palace. Deputy of PNL Relu Fenechiu already made an announcement which states that "DNA was soft with the members of PDL who argue with the law."

Nothing surprising in the fact that the group of "322" tries to distract the public attention from cases such as those of Nastase, Mitrea or Şereş. But it is shocking how PDL has abandoned its leaders - including a potential prime minister - before the indictments, inconsistent and devoid of any foundation made by the group Nicolai-Tărăcilă. PDL representative of the Legal Committee in the Senate - a certain Constantin Gheorghe, elected in 2004, on the lists of the Conservative Party - did not disociated from the report. Basically, through his complice silence he assumed it. The group of PDL senators - led by the same non-existent Constantin Gheorghe - has not protested. Neither the PDL leadership has responded to the diversion made by the legal committee. The statements of Videanu and Stolojan, left to manage on their own, are covered by the choir of Basescu's adversaries. The manuver of the anti-presidential camp is even more effective as, yesterday, the Senate approved the start of prosecution against Şereş and Păcuraru.

The elections from this autumn will be a close battle. Each vote will count. The Tariceanu Government already prepared the usual tricks: pensions will increase one week before the poll, in early November a new line of subway will be opened and Bechtel will also complete all of the first 24 km of motorway. In the meantime, Boc's party seems to be completely out of inspiration or initiative. The situation "Stolojan-Videanu-Seculici" shows that PDL is no longer able to react. During the time Basescu had served as chairman of the PD, cheap political manoeuvres, such as the one made by Nicolai and Tărăcilă, could be passed unsanctioned, and the party whould have defended its people.

For PDL, Traian Băsescu's popularity might not be sufficient. If PSD will geta single vote more than any other political formation, the head of state will have a big political issue when they will have to nominate the future prime minister.
