Adriana Săftoiu was the man of Basescu. She served his political interests. She acted in court against Teodor Atanasiu, the former minister of defence, only for Basescu to ban him and bring in the PDL court the secret services of the Army. Adriana Săftoiu will be the man of Dinu Patriciu. The image service that she will bring to the oil tycoon is huge. When they will see that one of the closest people to Basescu has no problem to jump into the boat of the "oligarch" Patriciu, many will ask if the businessman is really as harmful to Romania as the head of state portraits him. This is, I think the main reason of the invitation launched to Adrianei Săftoiu, beyond the burning desire of revenge of the businessman on the president. She wants it or not, the label of "Patriciu's man" will be glued together on her forehead by now, it will help her to climb the hierarchy of PNL, to achieve political goals, certainly much higher than the mandate of deputy.
Seeing the weakness of the arguments that seek to justify their lack of consistency, you can only think at one thing: Adriana Săftoiu wants to reach as high as she can in politics, regardless of the means.
Relations with Traian Băsescu have cooled since the scandal "Bileţelul" when she declared that she is disturbed that the President did not told her of its existence, but preferred to leave Elena Udrea to launch her torpedos against the couple Patriciu-Tariceanu. She didn't felt only neglected. She understood that Traian Băsescu has big political plans with someone else. I do not think Adriana Săftoiu passed to Patriciu's boat because of frustrations or by the desire of revenge, but of pragmatism.
Traian Băsescu's popularity has not helped her to achieve her political goals, and as in Romania there is no other politician as popular as him to ensure her success, she thought that perhaps the solution is Dinu Patricu's money. Who knows? Maybe she will succeed. But I do not know if she will be the politician needed by Romania. She will be just a politician.
