Scared by the stand taxes, Romanian producers threaten to leave supermarkets even if they will declare bankruptcy.
Romanian food and textile products could disappear from supermarkets in the country, if the authorities will not take action against the stand taxes imposed by the market's big players.
The representatives of producers from industries like meat, dairy, wine, bread and textile asked, yesterday, the parliament to update the legal background with more specific details on the price settlement by the producers.
"We want that the selling price to be defined like a production price plus a profit rate imposed by us, and the stand price to be the selling price plus a rate from the taxes payed to the supermarket", asked Sorin Minea, Romalimenta president, during the hearing organised by the Commission for Political Economy of the Deputies Chamber.
At this moment, producers are forced to include in the selling price of their products a part of the taxes imposed by the retailers. "In our sector are over 20 taxes. For example, the advertising tax, marketing bonuses, tax for the supermarket magazine and so on", said Aurel Popescu, Rompan president. In the case of food producers, this taxes could reach 40.000-50.000 euro, according to the dairy-produces industry representative, Valentin Blanaru. Chain withdrawals In these conditions, a part of the local producers consider to whitraw from the supermarket stands. "In the wine industry, Cotnari and Recas has already withdrew from Carrefour, and acording to my informations a third producer will follow", said the wine producers representative, Ovidiu Gheorghe.
Similar decisions could be taken by the Romanian textile producers. After the disscusions with the Ministry of Agriculture, the Auchan retailer management warned that it is not giving up the taxes and will start colaborations with foreign producers. If supermarkets take this decision the most affected will be the dairy and meat industries.
Dairy prducers can export only 30% of their production, while meat producers can't export pork meat because of a vaccine that is banned in the EU. At this moment, for some producers sales to supermarkets represent about 70% of their production. LEGISLATION Changes, in a month
A decision on an eventual change in the legislation could be taken in the middle of May, after producers and retailes will be heared altogether.
"The fact that producers are forced to pay the advertising tax for products that enter the supermarket property, like in the Auchan case, cought my attention", said the president of the commission for political economy, Mihai Tudose. At the governmental level a workgoup was founded to elaborate a practice code between suppliers and retailers.
