102 million euros for broadcasting the Liga 1 games

Antena 1 – RCS&RDS consortium has purchased the broadcast rights of the Liga 1 soccer matches for the next three years, at a staggering price of 102 million euros.

102 million euros in just 8 minutes. That’s how much the Professional Soccer League (LPF) got after an auction that started at 12:14 PM and ended at 12:22 PM.

The amount of money, which was offered for the three years (85 million euros without VAT), is the highest bid in the history of Romanian soccer. The consortium offered four times more money than LPF received in the past editions.

The partnership with RCS&RDS cable operator made the Antena 1 TV station the main soccer “provider” in the local media market. The station owned by the Voiculescu family already has the broadcasting rights of the National team’s games and for the Romanian Cup matches.

Champions League at TVR The public station has a spectacular come back in the media market. UEFA has granted the national TV station the broadcast rights for the Champions League matches, after Pro TV has broadcasted the most important European soccer games for the past nine years.

According to our information, the public TV station will pay about 30 million euros for three seasons, beginning with next years season.
